Marika Vilisaar is a Legal Specialist and a Project Manager with 7+ years experience in private and public sectors, specialising in environmental law. Marika’s expertise covers international law, legal reform and policy development, feasibility studies, law of the sea and environmental law in both European and ASEAN markets.
As a Project Manager, Marika has developed and managed successful projects across different continents for various stakeholders including governments, NGOs, investors and development partners in the fields of sustainable development, conservation, fisheries, waste, renewables, social infrastructure and green technologies.
Marika has a BA in Law from University of Tartu, and an LLM in Public International Law from University of Leiden, specialising in Environmental Law. Her interest in maritime affairs led her to publishing articles on the Sino-Japanese Maritime Jurisdictional Disputes in the East China Sea, as well as on long-term solutions to sustainable fisheries. For the past 14 years she has been closely linked with Asia, particularly with Southeast Asia and Vietnam where she lived and worked around 9 years.
As a passionate advocate for long-term solutions for marine conservation, sustainable fisheries and international wildlife crime, Marika is continuing her work with these issues in an European context.
